Is it possible kayaking on Murchison Falls, embarking on a kayaking journey down the powerful…
The news of Murchison Waterfalls being rescued from a developer was received with wide smiles from lovers of tourism and nature. On 27/08/2019 Government of Uganda in a statement said, “Murchison waterfalls will not be given away for construction of a hydro-power dam”. This is after, the proposed feasibility study for a hydro-power project at the Murchison Falls National Park in north-western Uganda sparked online outrage with 2500 people petitioning policymakers to block the construction of a power dam there and lovers of tourism and nature around the world joining in a campaign to save the waterfalls.
Murchison Falls is located in the Murchison Falls national park in the northern part of the Albertine Rift Valley. This is one of Uganda’s ancient conservation areas. The park covers an area of about 3,893km2 and it is known to be one of Uganda’s well-protected areas.
The starter of this eight-hour drive by road is the Ziwa Rhino Santuary to see rhinos in Luwero. Tourists view the falls from the top and at the bottom in a boat. Murchison is the climax of your trip to the largest park in Uganda. Here you see, the longest river in the world, hitting the rocks with such a force to ferociously plunge 43 meters down.
The place is any photographer’s dream come true, you can shoot a photo of a crocodile, hippo, buffalo, and birds in one frame. You just cannot take your finger off the camera trigger.
Visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing where to stay as the Budget and High-class clients have a variety to take their pick from. There is Pakuba Safari Lodge where Idd Amin Dada and his counterpart Mobutu Tseseko of Congo used to make merry in their heydays. On its heels are Heritage Safari Lodge and Fort Murchison Safari Lodge as well as Kalalo Cottage Inn which is 5km from the park and 1km from Pakwach town.
